Hey guys and girls! Going to keep this post short and to the point. At least try to. We all want to look and feel better. It’s a goal I think everyone has whether they know it or not. No one wants to be tired all the time, not able to keep up with kids or grandkids, or look ten or fifteen years older than they are. If you desire these things then you are a special case but I think for the most part, we all want to live healthier, look better and just feel great about life and all it has to offer (yes I know some parts of life suck….but not everything).
- The first and most important step to looking and feeling your best is to become as close to stress free as possible. That’s probably the hardest thing to do. I know for me it is. Letting go of the stresses of the world and everything you may or may not have going on is and will be tough. But its essential in both LOOKING and FEELING better. Stress will cause your skin to break out. It will cause you to have puffy eyes or dark circles under or around your eyes. Stress will cause you to look like you are 50 and you are only 40. I’m not a therapist or a doctor but I am someone who goes through stress and I am learning how to contain and/or get rid of it every day.
- One of my methods of getting rid of stress is simply getting on my knees in prayer. Literally. There is something very humbling about getting on your knees that takes you to place of surrendering all that you have. So that’s what I do. When things get too tough and I can begin to see the stress coming out of my skin I drop down and surrender all that stress to God. It’s got to GO at that point!
- After I do this, I MUST say affirmations OUT LOUD. I can’t think them in my head or whisper them so people can’t hear me. I have to say it. It’s the only way I can make myself believe it and act on my beliefs. If I say I’m not going to stress quietly in my head…..i will still be stressed. But once I say it out loud I begin to believe it and then I can feel the stress lifting. Which means looking and feeling better because trust me people can see stress on you. You can hide it for a little bit but it will show up externally if you don’t let it go. (Talking to myself again here….boy writing this is pretty therapeutic for me!)
- After getting rid of the stresses, you have to begin to undo the damage of what that stress did. And for me, when I am stressed I reach for something sweet. Cakes, brownies, cookies, ice cream as long as it was made with some sugar in it, it would temporarily help. So the next most important thing to do in order to look and feel your best is to change up that diet. Again talking to myself. Its not easy. It takes serious discipline to not eat things that may comfort you for a moment in time. But those things hurt over the long run. They make you feel tired and sluggish, have headaches, feel bloated, break out in a rash or acne, and many other things. Your skin and body will love you for it. Your skin will look more alive and begin to glow versus being dull, dry or super greasy, broken out and spotty. You will be able to get up in the morning with more energy versus dreading to pull the cover back. But it takes discipline for sure. Something I’m working on sharpening as I type this.
Side note: Pat me on the back because this past weekend I met up with some of my business besties and it was at a restaurant that sells my all time favorite dessert. Red Velvet Cheesecake and I did not get it. Discipline. Did I think about it my whole drive to my next destination? Absolutely but bottom line….I didn’t get it. Small step towards my ultimate goal of living healthier lifestyle.
Eating fruits and veggies as close to their original state is always the best way to go. Its not that hard to do. Eating a salad is a great way to eat raw veggies. Switching up the lettuce for kale, collards, spinach or other leafy greens is a great way to give a salad a boost. There are simple, easy and tasty ways to improve our diets and help reverse some of the damages that junk foods have done to our bodies. Its not an overnight fix…remember you’ve been eating food for quite a long time now so its going to take a while to completely reverse ALL the damage but why not at least start the journey.
