Lately, I have really been tired, have headaches all the time, very little energy and its been weighing on me. There are so many people around me suffering from different types of cancers to diabetes and more. Even though I eat relatively healthy its time to kick it up a notch. I want to be an example to my daughter and others that what and how you eat can drastically change how your body feels, acts and heals itself. Do I have all the answers? Nope but I can look for the answers and apply them to my life. So I am about to start a complete journey to health and wellness and I am taking you along for the ride as well. What I learn, so will you. And let me say that I’m not a doctor so I’m not by any means giving healthcare advice that should trump what your doctor or healthcare provider tells you. I am simply sharing with you my journey to complete health and wellness in hopes that it inspires you to start your own journey as well.
First stop on this train is to get rid of my cravings for SUGAR! Sugar in my opinion is no worse than drugs or alcohol with it being very addictive and its harmful effects on the body. No different. So this is my first stop…..get rid of the sugar cravings. Am I saying I will never enjoy cake or cupcakes again? No, what I want is to not have cravings for it. If I don’t crave it I wont eat nearly as much as I do now. Will I totally stop eating all the items in my dont list? No but I can stop them for a month to help my body recharge and heal itself. This will allow me to see what these are actually doing to my body so that when I am done with detox I will know exactly how these foods effect me and can better decide whether its worth it to continue eating certain foods.
And let me tell you….quitting sugar is no easy thing to do because it is in EVERYTHING. Literally. If it is processed in any sort of way there is sugar in it. From your pasta meal (it coverts to sugar in your body) to you dipping sauce for your fries (potatoes also converts to sugar in your body).
So what am I going to do you ask? Here are my do’s and don’ts for the month of August.
DO – meats (chicken and fish), veggies, fruits, beans, nuts, healthy oils and fats, eggs
DON’T – sugar (real or artificial), starches, cheese, breads, pasta, grains, fast food
Most of this will be pretty easy except for the sugar portion. Its the only one that I crave and “have to have”. I will provide a quick weekly post about how each week went, how I’m feeling and I will be totally honest about everything. If I slip up I will tell it, if I am breezing through I will tell it. Once I do this month I will go a little deeper and a little more detailed with things that I cut out. So check back for my results.
